Queens Of The Stone Age
Queens Of The Stone Age – the break out band from the California desert. Josh disbanded Kyuss in ’95, played out with Screaming Trees, and then recorded a 2-song EP with Van Conner (Screaming Trees) and Matt Cameron (Soundgarden). Alfredo Hernandez and Homme moved to Seattle and began writing material that would inevitably become some of the tracks for the first record. In ’97 he released a split with Kyuss featuring Chris Goss (Masters of Reality) and Hutch. Former Kyuss bassist, Nick Oliveri, joined the lineup until 2004. Alain Johannes took over bass and his wife, Natasha Shneider, played keyboards. QOTSA developed stylistically: Raw yet refined, hard edged and psychedelic, riff driven rock that doesn’t shy away from catchy melodies or tender emotions. To date the band has been nominated for Grammy awards 5 times since 2003. They have had 11 gold records and 5 platinum records in 5 countries and still sell out major venues around the world. The current lineup features Troy Van Leeuwen, Michael Shuman, Dean Fertita, Jon Theodore. Past members and contributing players include: Dave Catching, Dave Grohl, Gene Trautmann, Joey Castillo, Brendon McNichol and Mark Lanegan.
